Osprey: Also known as; Fish Hawk, Seak Hawk, River Hawk, and Fish Eagle

Osprey is bird of prey also known as a raptor.

Description:

Weight: 2-5 lbs.

Length: 20-26 inches

Wing Span: 50-71 inches

Underparts: pure white

Bill: black

Eyes: golden to brown

 

Diet: 99% fish

Rarely: rodents, rabbits, hares, amphibians, small reptiles, other birds (when fish is scarce)

Facts:

  • Second most widely distributed raptor after peregrine falcon
  • Osprey breeds near freshwater lakes and rivers
  • Some Osprey nests have been used for 70 years
  • Ospreys began to breed around age 3
  • Ospreys usually are monogamous and mate for life
