The Florida Sandhill Crane’s status is state-designated threatened. 

Height: 4 feet tall

Wing Span: 6 1/2 feet wide

Diet: seeds and berries, insects and worms, mice, small reptiles, amphibians, and small birds

FACTS:

  • Non-migratory Species
  • nests in freshwater ponds and marshes
  • flies with neck complete outstretched
  • is a monogamous species
  • nests are built by both parents
  • unique courtship displayed by running, jumping, and dancing
  • at 10 months old offspring leaves parents
  • at 2 years old young cranes begins to search for mates
